Legendary criminal defense attorney, legal scholar and author J. Cheney Mason is best known for his participation in the defense of Casey Anthony in her 2011 trial. Anthony, facing the death penalty for murdering her two-year-old daughter Caylee, was acquitted thanks to the tireless efforts of Cheney and his associates. Details of the case can be found in his first book, “Justice in America: How Prosecutors and the Media Conspire against the Accused.”

After a successfully fighting with cancer a few years back, Cheney has focused his energy on writing. He shares his personal account and learnings of his cancer journey in his second book written in collaboration with Dr. Robert Thill titled “Facing and Surviving Prostate Cancer,” published in 2024. He is currently working on several more books detailing his perspective on other high-profile criminal cases.

Cheney Mason is unequaled as one of this country’s brilliant legal minds. His argument in a courtroom is masterful. As a Court TV correspondent, I watched him lead the defense in multiple high profile trials broadcast to the country. Cheney and his late wife Shirley were also some of the kindest and most giving people I have ever met.
