Justice In America

How the Prosecutors and the Media Conspire Against the Accused

The Casey Anthony trial of 2011 is estimated to have drawn the television and reading attention of no less than a quarter of a billion people from around the world. In Justice in America, Anthony defense attorney J. Cheney Mason, who was brought in to save the case, asserts that the jury got it right, and that America, the media, and the public blinded by the nightly lights, got it all wrong. His is the final chapter on the Anthony trial which ignited, mesmerized, and inflamed the public in a way not seen since the O.J. Simpson trial. It became the trial of this century and a piece of legal work destined to be studied for decades to come.

Attorney Mason answers the remaining questions left by previous authors with a play-by-play account of what was happening behind the scenes with Casey. He shares never before revealed media bias, and enough case secrets to make readers re-examine their conscience and the quick path to judgment and personal conviction of Anthony. A must-read for anyone who followed the trial; for anyone interested in justice and absolutely required reading for anyone pursuing law or criminal justice as a life passion.

Have you ever heard the saying, “So many things were done wrong, I could write a book”? This is exactly what Cheney Mason did – Cheney wrote a book and this book was an eye opener, I recommend you read this book with an open mind; this book is NOT a book about trying to convince the public of Casey’s innocence, it’s a book about the media distorting facts and how the State handles cases when media is involved.

I wonder how many innocent people have been imprisoned or put to death because of media hype based on love of sensationalism.

The angry reviews here prompt me to ask, would you rather live in a country where, if you were arrested for a crime, whether you were innocent or guilty, you were tried by the media, whose purpose is to make money by getting people riled up so that they will keep reading or viewing your stories, or would you rather live in a country where people dedicated to truth and justice and completely immune to the media determined your innocence or guilt? If you chose the latter, sorry, you will have difficulty finding it in the U.S. Cheney Mason’s book gives me so much consolation and gratitude because sometimes truth and justice do win out in sensational cases. I wonder how many innocent people have been imprisoned or put to death because of media hype based on love of sensationalism rather than truth. Mr. Mason says a fair trial is more important that the first amendment rights of the media, and in his book, he shows why.

Well I finished Cheney Mason’s new book – and I can honestly say it’s great!. Should be of tremendous interest to anybody into true crime stories or criminal law. And, of course, if you are interested in the Casey Anthony case, the rights of the accused, the way in which prosecutors lie, cheat, manipulate the media, corrupt jury pools and crime scenes, then this book is definitely for you! Needless to say Mason goes over much of the same material that Baez and Golenbock cover in their book. I don’t think he is quite the writer Peter Golenbock is, but his skills are up to the task. Those who claim this book is nothing but a mere repeat of Baez’s Presumed Guilty must have been skimming. Eavesdropping judges, lies, media leaks, character assassinations, Discovery violations, threats and intimidation tactics. You have to ask yourself whether Ashton would have been elected State’s Attorney had this book been released during his campaign. As Jose Baez has stated, the investigation was never a search for the truth: it was all about pinning the crime on the public’s chosen scapegoat. For Ashton and Burdick it was also about winning. Ashton had hoped he would go out with a bang, but went out with a loud thud instead. The book is filled with documents that authenticate the author’s claims. All considered, Justice In America is extremely credible, its account of events plausible. Only in a couple instances did I think Mason might have given a more balanced account. What we have here is his interpretation, the interpretation that won in court. Sadly, it is an uphill battle convincing people that the winning interpretation of the evidence is really the true interpretation of the evidence. However, once the open-minded reader has been informed about the media distortions, the case suddenly becomes plausible. Plod ahead, even against your will, and you might just find yourself concluding that the jury got it right.

What an eye opener into the justice (injustice) system and the problems with the press. Maybe when we get the next President, these issues will be addressed and prosecutors, who are only attorneys, will be prosecuted for their tactics, which are criminal actions. The press should be banned from covering arrests and trials until they have been completed. Way too much bad information about the individual, who is to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, but is guilty immediately by public opinion, from which they can never fully recover. Another book that explains this in more detail in Federal cases is Busted by the Feds. It will make you sick to see how corrupt the government and how they will do anything to satisfy their cravings for convictions. Mr. Trump states he will not allow Government corruption to continue. If he wins, I wonder if it the system is too far gone to be reformed.
